Accreditation levels are as follows:

 

HAMMER TRAINING LEVEL 1 – ONLINE TECHNICAL AND USER INDUCTION


Pre-qualifications:

  • Working in a commercial piling environment, directly with DCP hammers

  • Be supported to enter the programme by named employer

  • Familiarity with hammer documents made available on the welcome page  and in the resources page - this will be subject to testing

  1. Read and understand the user manual.

  2. Able to check all levels - Engine Oil/Coolant/Hydraulic Oil/Fuel levels
  3. Inspection to see if there are any leaks in the power pack

  4. Inspection of the hammer for leaks

  5. Demonstrating the ability to proficiently grease the hammer

  6. Inspection of lift rigging on Hammer and power pack

  7. Connection of hoses – being able to identify Pressure / return and height adjust hoses

  8. Ensuring that these are clean when connecting

  9. Understand how to start the power pack and if required how to engage the hydraulic warm up circuit

  10. Understanding that the hammer will not start unless it is on a pile

  11. The operator knows how to start the hammer using the pendant

  12. The operator understands the functions of the pendant

  13. The operator understands that the hammer needs to start on small energy 120 blows per min and depending on driving can go to max energy 80 blows per min

  14. Refusal – 10 blows per 25mm onshore and marine, 10 blow per 10mm offshore

  15. The operator knows how to stop the hammer in an emergency

  16. Check all fastenings are secure

  17. Understanding how to handle the hammer while maintaining and operating the equipment

  18. Understand correct PPE that needs to be used when maintaining or operating the equipment

HAMMER TRAINING LEVEL 2 – BRONZE AWARD

 

Pre-qualifications:

  • Be supported to enter the programme by named employer

  • Be up to date on all DCP online training

  • Demonstrate required professional training standards attained i.e. degree, HNDs etc.

  • Attained DCP Level 1 and having the ability to run through all Level 1 items in person to 95% standard with no critical errors or omissions

  • A specified number of hours of applicable logged reported experience

  • A specified number of years of overall experience as a diesel fitter or hydraulic engineer

  1. Conducting a hammer operation or maintenance risk assessment as an individual operator

  2. Being able to fully operate the hammer through usual hammer operations

  3. Being able to reset the hammer after it has cut out for safety reasons

  4. Accumulators – ability to check and adjust pressure

  5. Ability to service power pack, change filters and oils

  6. Understand how to remove (leg) covers to inspect the workings of the hammer

  7. Being able to change the disc springs

  8. Being able to bypass the overtravel valve for test purposes

  9. Able to remove and replace an ROV

  10. Able to change condition of wear sensors and change parts

  11. Being able to remove the drive can/sheet legs to inspect the condition of the dolly, anvil and suspension rings

 

Maintaining qualification:
Accreditation lasts one year by default
Maintaining accreditation thereafter is dependent on a specified number of hours of applicable logged reported experience

These requirements are annual – any lapse would require a refresher update to re-qualify at the
same level.

HAMMER TRAINING LEVEL 3 – SILVER AWARD

 

Pre-qualifications:

  • Be supported to enter the programme by named employer

  • Be up to date on all DCP online training

  • Demonstrate required professional training standards attained i.e. degree, HNDs etc.

  • Attained DCP Level 2 and be currently accredited at that level

  • A specified number of hours of applicable logged reported experience

  • A specified number of years of overall experience as a diesel fitter or hydraulic engineer

  1. Conducting a hammer operation or maintenance risk assessment as a supervisor, incorporating the working environment of self and an assistant and a banksman/crane operator

  2. If the hammer is not functioning correctly how to carry out a function test in the horizontal position

  3. Understand the systems if the ROV is stuck on in the lower position or top position what the systems would be

  4. Being able to remove the main ram and being able to reseal and test the ram

  5. Being able to service accumulators

  6. Being able to remove the overtravel valve and to reseal this part

  7. Being able to remove the main spool and sleeve and reseal these parts

  8. Checking flow on power pack and pressure

  9. Understand electrical diagrams and hydraulic circuits

  10. Understanding and interpreting hammer drive studies

Maintaining qualification:

Maintaining accreditation thereafter is dependent on a specified number of hours of applicable logged reported experience

HAMMER TRAINING LEVEL 4 – GOLD AWARD

 

Pre-qualifications:

  • Be supported to enter the programme by named employer

  • Be up to date on all DCP online training

  • Demonstrate required professional training standards attained i.e. degree, HNDs etc.

  • Attained DCP Level 3 and be currently accredited at that level

  • A specified number of hours of applicable logged reported experience

  • A specified number of years of overall experience as a diesel fitter or hydraulic engineer

  1. How to train others to Level 2 Standard

  2. Tour and familiarisation with the Chesney Wold manufacturing process (at DCP HQ)

  3. Conducting a hammer operation or maintenance risk assessment as site supervisor, including all facets of the work environment

  4. How to undertake refurbishment of a CRH hammer

  5. How to certify refurbishment and obtain endorsement through DCP

  6. Identifying potential material or component failure and how to address it

  7. Overall asset management – monitoring and policing maintenance and operations for a fleet of hydraulic hammers

  8. Complementary items – how to specify crash frames, etc.; certification of complementary items as required
